Following a thoughtful and prayerful national search process, Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) has named Dr. Jamie R. Johnson as its next Vice President for Student Life and Formation.
Dr. Johnson brings more than two decades of experience in Christian higher education, with leadership across student life, residence life, admissions, athletics, spiritual formation, pastoral care, intercultural engagement, and student development. He currently serves as Dean for Spiritual Life and University Pastor at George Fox University, where he provides strategic leadership for university-wide spiritual formation and oversees chapel programs, liturgical life, soul care, and other student formation initiatives. Earlier in his career, he served at Gordon College in housing, residence life, admissions, and athletics, giving him a broad foundation in both the student life and spiritual formation dimensions of this role.
Throughout his tenure at George Fox, Dr. Johnson has held increasing levels of leadership responsibility, including service as Dean for Faith and Culture, Associate Dean, Director, and Adjunct Faculty. His leadership has included guiding the merger of the Offices of Spiritual Life and Intercultural Life, directing university chapel programs and curricula, launching the Friends Leadership Program, and contributing to institutional efforts related to belonging, student care, and mission alignment.
Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Biola University, an M.A. in Church History from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Religion from George Fox University. He is also Chair of the CCCU Campus Ministry Commission and a Senior Leadership Academy Fellow through the Council of Independent Colleges.
