JobfitMatters Executive Search, together with the Brentwood Academy Board of Trustees, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Patterson as the next Head of School, effective July 1, 2025. Patterson, the third leader in Brentwood Academy’s 55-year history, follows the successful 25-year tenure of Head of School Curt Masters.
Patterson currently serves as Head of School at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia. Prior to that, he served as Head of School at Liberty Christian Academy from 2010-2020. Under his leadership, the school grew to 2000 students, becoming the largest private school in Virginia. As an Active Duty Officer in the United States Army from 1996-2001, he participated in Operation Desert Fox.
Patterson was selected from an exceptional pool of candidates in a nationwide search conducted by Laura Coverstone and Ed Poff of JobfitMatters and the Brentwood Academy Search Committee. Brentwood Academy Board Chair Buddy Bacon commented: “This is an exciting time for Brentwood Academy, as Dr. Patterson is respected nationally as a passionate advocate for Christian education. He is a man of integrity and great character whose leadership in previous positions has led to great growth and success.”
Patterson has earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Liberty University and an undergraduate degree in systems engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He and his wife, Cindy, have one adult daughter, Gracie.
Brentwood Academy is a co-educational, independent, college preparatory school dedicated to nurturing and challenging each whole person—body, mind, and spirit—to the glory of God.
